Cytron MDS40B Smart Drive DC Motor Driver 40Amp 10V-45V The Cytron MDS40B is an enhanced motor driver designed to control medium to high-power brushed DC motors. Capable of driving motors with a voltage range from 10V to 45V, it supports continuous currents up to 40A and peak currents up to 80A (for brief periods). The driver features advanced smart capabilities, making it ideal for robotics and other motor-driven applications. Equipped with MOSFETs switched at 16 kHz, the MDS40B ensures quiet operation. It also includes a microcontroller that manages key functions such as current limiting, thermal protection, and multiple input modes. The driver’s versatility allows users to control motors using RC signals, analog input, PWM, or serial communication, making it highly adaptable to different use cases. The driver is built with safety in mind, offering multiple protection mechanisms such as under-voltage and over-voltage indicators, over-temperature protection, and an input error detection system. NOTE: If a power supply that cannot sink current is being used (example: bench top and AC to DC switching power supply), the input voltage will rise when the driver is regenerating (motor is slowing down). Thus, it is important to connect a battery with same voltage in parallel with the power supply to absorb the current generated by the motor. Else, the input voltage might rise to a level where Enhanced SmartDrive40 will be destroyed permanently or the power supply trigger protection mode.
